Fun with Fermentation

A 2-hour informative and fun class on lacto-fermentation. 

During an informative presentation at the beginning of the class, Cinda will share with you the history of fermentation, how and why it works, the equipment needed, and ingredients for successful fermentation projects.

Then we move to the kitchen for the hands-on portion where you will be guided in the creation your own fermenting jars, one with cabbage (sauerkraut) and one with carrots (eskabeche), that you will take home, ferment on your counter and enjoy. You will learn two different air lock techniques and also be able to flavor your creations to your liking. After a week or so at home, you’ll have your own tasty and healthy sauerkraut and spiced carrot pickles.

Each class is limited to 6 participants. Bring your own apron or use one of ours. Closed toe shoes are recommended.

Time to Get Spicy

In this 2-hour class you will learn to water-bath and steam can some tasty salsa.

During an informative presentation at the beginning of the class, Cinda will share with you important techniques so you can safely can using either water-bath and steam canning techniques.

Then we move to the kitchen for the hands-on portion where you will be guided in making and canning both a tomato salsa and peach salsa. Each person attending will take home and enjoy the two jars each of the different salsas they helped make. These make great homemade gifts!

Each class is limited to 6 participants. Bring your own apron or use one of ours. Closed toe shoes are recommended.

Cheering for Cherries

Cherries are one of the first stone fruits of the season and the cherries in our area are worth preserving. At this 2-hour class, we will cover the basics of water-bath and steam canning as we make two delectable products that you will take home with you.

During an informative presentation at the beginning of the class, Cinda will share with you important techniques so you can safely can using either water-bath and steam canning.

When we move to the kitchen for the hands-on portion, you will be guided in making and canning both a low sugar Chocolate Cherry Preserves (spectacular on ice cream or cheesecake.) Then we team the cherries with onions and spices to become Cherry Chutney (wonderful with pork or ona cheese platter.) We will also cover basic dehydration and you will get tips on making a great fruit leather perfect for hiking and backpacking.

Upcoming Classes

a few details...

All of our classes are designed for adults and are hands-on with the use of knives and a hot stove. Children aged 8 to 18 are welcome to attend a class but must register and pay separately and must be accompanied by a paying adult. The adult with a minor in attendance will be expected to supervise the child who is attending with them.

Attire: Bring your own apron or you can use one of ours. All attendees should wear practical work clothes and shoes. For your safety, we ask that you do not wear sandals.

Cancellations: Most classes can only accommodate six individuals. As classes fill up, we will be adding people to a waiting list. We ask for a 7-day notice if you are unable to attend so that we can fill your spot with someone from our waiting list. Thank you.
